Reviews:

starsVery good HDTV picture, poor DVD picture
I really wanted to like this television, given that I purchased it at such a good price, and it appeared to have all of the features I wanted. The picture quality on hdtv channels is very good - not quite as nice as my Sharp, but still very nice and certainly acceptable.

I wish I could say the same about the DVD player however. I was really disappointed with the picture quality from the dvd player and as a result this unit will be returned. I tried tweaking the picture settings to improve the picture, and while I could get it better, I just couldn't get to a level that I desired. Not to mention that it seems that you cannot have different picture settings for the different inputs, which is a big shortcoming, as the settings that provide a very good picture on the hdtv channels provide a very washed out image from the dvd player. There are 3 other preset picture settings, but none adjusted the dvd picture to a level I was happy with, and having to reset the settings based on dvd vs hdtv would be very cumbersome. Perhaps there is a way to save the settings for each input, but I couldn't figure it out, and the settings never adjusted the dvd to a good enough level anyway. I assume that the DVD player is not progressive scan like you can get on many competitors' models now.

I also must agree with others - the dvd startup is shockingly loud, irritatingly so. I also disliked that there appears to be no program info from hdtv channels being received, which I get from my years old Sharp. One other thing, small but very annoying, is the procedure to add a channel to you favorites. You have to go through several menu screens just to add a channel - a very tedious process. While this should be a one-time setup, it is so easy to wipe out the favorites list since the channel program button is mapped to one of the buttons on the remote normally used for the DVD player and can be easily hit by mistake.

Pros:
-Very good picture quality from HDTV channels
-Very affordable (when I purchased at least)
-Built-in DVD player
-Every connection that one could ever want

Cons:
-Relatively poor DVD picture quality (no progressive scan)
-No program info for HDTV channels
-Resetting the channels is much too easy, which wipes out all of your favorites, which is a very tedious process of entry
-Very noisy DVD upon startup and whenever going to DVD menu

All in all, an okay product if you are looking for a combination tv-dvd and this fits your price point. However, if you plan to use the dvd player anything more than occasionally, I suggest looking for a combination unit that includes a progressive dvd player, since the quality here just doesn't match the quality of the hdtv broadcasts, and there seem to be offerings around the same price point as this unit that offer the progressive scan.

starsToshiba 23" LCD HDTV
Not the best picture I've ever seen but a good value for the money. DVD player is kind of clunky but again, a pretty good value for the price paid.

starsGood TV, Remote is questionable
The image seems good, having built in DVD is nice. Strike only on top is outside seems to make delay a occassional by answering once that you test and change a channel. A little over-estimated considering what are other options out from there: you can buy a separate player of DVD for the $50 males below nowadays, and cash invest the remainder of the money in a nicer unit... unless space is an exit, is which what you pay (its capacities of economy of space).

starsI would give "0" stars if I could!
I bought the first unit in August 2007. That functioned very well during a few weeks then decided to stop (right the white disappeared!). I called Toshiba and was mentioned an authorized merchant of service. The unit remained in the shopping centre for charts 1 of waiting of months which never came because they were not provided by Toshiba (unit relatively recently produced and Toshiba of A does not have even spare parts: that indicates something to you!). Finally Toshiba agreed to replace the unit and me received my current TV during 1 month later. Maintaining the DVD does not function correctly and does not continue with pixelating and to jump (I cleaned and played multiple DVDs but the problem persisted). I called Toshiba and insisted on the fact that I need a replacement for my replacement. They could not worry less. Very that they were laid out to make was to send to me again to the shopping centre. It is the last product of Toshiba which I will buy.

starsPerfect bedroom TV
Is exactly this TV what we seek to put in our room to be slept. The screen is the perfect size, TV and the work of large DVD and the capacity to place it to come each morning functions as a our awake-morning, just as we were employed with with our old unit. Great purchase.

starsJust OK as 2nd TV
I bought this liquid crystal display to replace an old tube of 27". Unfortunately, I miss already the old tube. The unit is probably good if you hang it to a cable or to a rested box. My exit was with employing it was connected directly to the cable without the box. The tuner (similar) of ATSC as a whole is grained and the English Channel reversing is slow (white screen while it commutates channels and is closed again). Worst of all, there is only one hand winch of RF. If I want HDTV, I must go terrestrial or rent a box of cable of Comcast for $10/month. I was going to buy an aerial change-over switch to be able to commutate ATSC-Cable with HDTV-Terrestrial, but insofar as I can appear, the TV must be configured for the "cable" or the "TV" (terrestrial) and commutation between the two minutes of catches to sweep and reprogram all the stations. To be honest, the tuner of HDTV functions large with a small terrestrial antenna - I wish just that I could have the two terrestrial HDTV and my similar channels of cable of ATSC. For what I balance the account is the grained cable and similar 4:3 of ATSC for all. So much for widescreen!

starslove it
great noise, spaces free

starsBuyer Beware
I cannot really review this article, since I did not see it in above one month. It Was DOA. I did not read the policy of return of the supplier before I ordered it. If I had, I would have realized that political is to them primarily "us can send something to you and you must take it". A layer in the box gives you the number of contact for the service with the customers of Toshiba. My TV rested during more than one month with the break-down mechanic authorized by Toshiba, awaiting a part which has to still arrive. Yesterday I was known as that Toshiba now decided to send a unit of replacement to me. That should add one week additional or two with waiting. I successfully bought on line electronics during more than one decade. It is by far, the worst experiment which I ever had. Learned lessons: 1. read the policy of return of the supplier really selling the article (i.e., you do not wait until the Amazon looks at outside for you); 2. Toshiba TV obtain many good reviews, but I would give to their service with the customers an estimate 1-to hold the first role; 3. Read and know your policy of conflict of chart of credit rating; 4. Buy your TV with the department store or the mom room

starsOff-angle view looking up is TERRIBLE!
UPDATE: Returned this TV and bought a Toshiba Regza 26" LCD TV/DVD combination (26LV67)...MUCH BETTER!
The Regza has good viewing at all off-angles (including looking up) and has an upconverting DVD player (the 23HLV87 does not). Paid only 'bout $150 more for the Regza 26" and got a better picture & upconverting DVD player-well worth the difference in my book!
ORIGINAL REVIEW
This isn't a bad TV, but be forewarned-the off-angle viewing when looking UP is terrible (looks like a photographic negative). I checked off-angle viewing from the sides in a showroom, but didn't think `bout lying in the floor to check the view looking up! I mistakenly assumed if it looked good from the sides, it would look the same from all angles-it doesn't!
I put this TV in my home office directly above my computer monitor, sitting on a corner unit. The 23HLV87 I had tilted it's max (5 degrees) and still had a couple of mouse pads to get more forward tilt and it still looks terrible looking up. The Regza doesn't tilt forward on it's stand as the 23HLV87 does, but it looks great when looking up even with no forward tilt.
After my experience with this TV, playing around in the showrooms it appears many LCDs smaller than 26" suffer the same (upward) off-angle viewing problem as this Toshiba. Apparently many manufacturers are putting newer/better LCDs in their 26" units.

starsToshiba 23HLV87 23" LCD HDTV with Built-In DVD Player
The replacement TV for the room to sleep after give the attack damaged several articles in the house. The TV was bought because of the inexpensive cost, now I know why very player of noisey DVD initially lit once. The English Channel effleurant has one to delay between the change before the screen jumps behind above and I cannot appear yet out of the button of return of channel on outside (the return to the channel)if precedent to equalize there is one. Is the image CORRECT but what is with channels and the images all of this commutation which employ various formats? The FCC made things more complicated than ever out looking at the TV. HDTV can make the image better but it must work to make things not very complicated for the average user.

starstv broke after 40 minutes!
It is unreal. After the TV arrived and I had set it up, the TV worked for 40 minutes and then went blank and failed completely. I brought it to an authorized dealer and was told a circuit board broke and needed replacement. The TV was fixed free of charge under warranty and is now functioning OK. However, I never had a new TV that worked for only 40 minutes before it broke.

starsGreat TV
I bought this for my part of girls. The image is large (for 23") DVD is slow to answer but the qorks outside very well. I would recommend it and would still buy it. The salesman fast, was communicated well, and forwarding was by the intermediary of UPS

starsIt's Just OK
I have the 26 (26HLV66) inch version of this tv and needed a smaller one for the bedroom. Assumed the 23 inch model would be exactly the same. It is not. The software for programing channels is very different and very frustrating. If one takes the time to input channel favorites and tag each channel with a label (ie., "ABC, CBS, ESPN" etc.) which takes about 30 minutes, be careful. Right next to the add/delete channel camand is the auto program cammand. Hit that by mistake and all data is erased. It hit that cammand twice by mistake and wasn't happy. Very poor software design.

The 26 inch version recieves all RCN cable HDTV without a box. This one recognizes only 2 of the 18 HDTV channels.

If you have a cable provider HDTV box, none of this should be an issue and you will be pleased with the picture. I was hoping to avoid that expense, but now have no choice. It's part of the family now.

You must turn auto aspect off to view standard broadcasts in the full aspect. Its a manual override. The 26 inch did this automatically and properly.

starsI love this monitor/TV/DVD Player
I don't watch TV very often, so my primary reason for purchasing this was to save space by having a computer monitor that is also a TV and a DVD player. It was simple to hook up to my computer and worked without making any adjustments. I hooked up an antenna to the TV and channels come in very clear without cable or satellite service. The DVD player works well. I am very happy with this and am enjoying the extra space I've gained by getting rid of my old TV and DVD player.

starsGREAT! Toshiba 23HLV87 23" LCD HDTV with Built-In DVD Player
I had one difficult moment finding a good HDTV with built in the player of DVD of any size. It is largest which I could find who could also be assembled wall and would look at "exact". I had only this during one day, but his execution very well and draws in all from the similar and numerical ways in my sector above the air. The image is very good and there is good control of lengthening, of saturation of color and such. Videophiles could indicate that the image is not good enough but it is for my room to be slept. The only disadvantages which I can find: no manner of punching in a decimal point by writing a station, for example 29.1. At least I cannot appear it outside. The posting of information does not show descriptions of program which are available on channels of HD. I obtain the latter on my Sony, but donot can obtain them on this TV. With all the options, exits and ordering of connectivity, it is a very good TV for now and the future. I really do not think that you can turn badly.

starsGreat Bedroom tv
I just obtained this one week ago, the quality of image is really in value it. The integrated player of DVD is superb. Up to now, aucunes felt sorry for. Maintain in the spirit that a screen of 23 inches of width is appropriate for a medium with the small room to be slept. I would have chosen a screen of 26 inches, but I have exits of space in this room to sleep particular.

starsVery happy with this Toshiba TV
We have this TV installed in our room to sleep and that functioned well for us during two last years. The quality of image is good and the gatherings of noise our needs. In fact I have few complaints about the TV. A thing that I do not like is that it chooses lengthening automatically. You cannot look at the regular TV inside widescreen like I put out of box my plasma TV of Sony, but it is a minor exit. The signals of HD seem large.

starsGood, but some quirks
I got this to replace the 19" conventional TV in our bedroom. The built in DVD player saves a lot of space. Over-the-air reception with a basic indoor antenna is pretty good, although programming the set of channels to receive was non-intuitive: it seemed like the list of channels was spontaneously changing. There is a signal strength display for digital channels, but it takes a lot of button presses to reach, changing the channel turns it off, and the value doesn't update, so finding the best antenna placement is more difficult than it could be.
The DVD player plays DivX DVDs, so now I can play downloaded videos somewhere other than my PC.
