And what can you do with all that speed? Surf the Web faster than ever before using the bundled Internet Explorer application, or log into Pocket MSN and check your Hotmail, use MSN Messenger, or browse the MSN Mobile portal. Robust SMS and MMS functionality is built into the Windows Mobile interface, too. One of the most important tools bundled with the PN-820 is Microsoft ActiveSync, which allows you to quickly synchronize your device's tasks, calendars, email, and contacts with your desktop. A calculator, an alarm clock, and a voice memo recorder round out the tools package. Lastly, if needed, the PN-820 can be used as a modem for laptops and PDAs, giving you Internet access whenever, and wherever Imaging and Entertainment Another great feature of the PN-820 is that it supports Windows Media playback right out of the box. With Windows Media Player 10, users can play video and audio content in a variety of formats, even purchased music from "Plays For Sure" supporting stores. Save your songs to a memory card with a capacity that's right for you. You can even pause to take a call without missing a beat. The PN-820's built-in camera has an integrated flash and the ability to take 1.3-megapixel stills. While the camera is great for taking stills, it can also function as a camcorder, allowing you to capture video to the unit's memory. An integrated media application organizes your captured photos and videos. And last, but certainly not least, the PN-820 keeps the fun going when you've got some downtime with great gaming ability. Suggested Service Options To get the most from the PN-820, you'll need to choose two additional service features on top of a voice plan. First, consider a Verizon BroadbandAccess plan, which also includes lower-speed data access in areas where broadband service is not available. If you are a frequent SMS or MMS messaging user, it's a good idea to get an Unlimited IN messaging plan to avoid pay-per-message charges. EV-DO Wireless Broadband Coverage Learn more about where EV-DO coverage is offered. Vital Statistics The Verizon PN-820 weighs 3.92 ounces and measures 3.84 x 2.03 x .78 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 3.33 hours of digital talk time, and up to 6 days of digital standby time. Verizon PN-820 Smartphone (Verizon Wireless)
Reviews:

starsNot my old Treo but a good phone
Although I miss my old Treo Smartphone, this one works with what I need. All i really wanted was a phone that had an easily accessible and syncable calendar feature. This one works well, fits in my purse, and does what I want although there is no touch screen and the full keyboard is missing. Syncs to Windows programs I needed with a sleek color background. The camera even has a flash.

starsPhone is ok, but A2DP is unusable
This phone is ok for the most part; it's the smallest smartphone available, and the software is very stable. All of the included applications work well.

The case is a little cheap and scratches easily though, and the stub antenna is constantly getting pulled out in my pocket and bent.

The main problems with the phone though is that A2DP, a feature Verizon advertises as working, is completely unusable. Because of a bug in Microsoft's Bluetooth stack, the sound quality on A2DP is awful - literally headache-inducing. Microsoft has fixed the problem in one of their AKU's (and in WM6 for that matter), but Verizon in typical form has no plans to update.

If you're considering this phone and want to use A2DP stay far away.

starsSMARTphone? Really?
Hour I have had this telephone for three really disappointing months and. My previous telephone of Verizon was a Motorola E815 and has a N75 with Cingular that is moreover one Smartphone. I have obtained it poichè is the only ones offering of Verizon of smartphone of the advanced cover and the only advanced cover that offer that they can effluire video. For: Small, light, confronted particularly to the other WM5 telephones. The sink of the video of the flows has supplied to a MS ch' the flow is available. Only advanced cover WM5 currently available from a carrying element of the United States. Against: The support of the headset of Bluetooth is HORRIBLE! The telephone supports the voice dialing/command, but you must speak within to the telephone. The MS has sure lame justification approximately why the voice order it is not supported from a headset- of BT even if every other telephone I has had/have that it works very well. Basically, it forgets hands-free from BT. The audio quality is really defective. Crackles and cracks constantly. I am using it the same place that I have used the E815 and the audio was very well. Quality of configuration - the telephone "thinks little" over the little expensive side. The telephone does not come with some ringtones "normal" - not not even "a blow blow". It has 5 or 6 ringtones techo-y cheezy, but nothing "really efficient" when you answer to one called via BT, the ringtone continues to play the surplus the first 2 or 3 second ones of your telephone conversation. The quality of speakerphone is so as to Badly that he is nearly unusable. The headings of profile and the browser of uA of the telephone are wrong. The telephone marks it it a defective URL for is profile of the wap and moreover the relationships that are screen are 176x220 (are acutally 240x320). Also just the place of the wap of the Verizon visualizes badly on the telephone. Verizon says if used the telephone for effluire video, you violando the TOS and will cancel your customer. That is not on the TOS that signed when you obtain the telephone, it you are on their Web site and in the Info the transmission more subsequently. HOWEVER, just homepage PN-820 of the Verizon has effluente video to it so as to satisfying of access on theirs just homepage for their telephone will put them in violation of their TOS.

starsNot bad
I have just had the phone for a week so far. I bought it for the Outlook calendar sync capability and it performs this function well (after some complications linking it with my computer at work - but had great support from a Verizon rep who walked me throught set-up). I like having the reminders for things I need to do.
I love being able to transfer pics from my computer to the phone.
The camera is not bad for a camera phone. But I agree with a previous reviewer about the lag time between the click and capturing the image. It is easy to blur the pics.
The size and weight are perfect -- for a smart phone - much better than the "brick" style phones.
It seems to have an endless variety of settings, but as a consequence you have multiple screens to do simple things - switching to vibrate mode or to change the ring volume takes at least 3 steps - why not let you switch these by using the earpiece volume control on the side of the phone.
I don't like having my cell phone play cutsy songs when it rings, I was surprised to find that this phone does not even give rings or beeps as an option - the only choices are the songs!
I would recommend it, although if there were other choices for clamshell style smartphones I would want to compare to see if another manufacturer could overcome some of the shortcomings, but since it is the only show in town, it is not bad.
Add - I have now had the phone for several months. I still like the clamshell design and love having access to my Outlook calendar, however, this is not the best phone overall. It is complicated to perform any functions, the picture ID gives only a tiny, barely visible pic in the corner (unless you buy additional software to correct this). If I were to do it again, I wonder if I might grin and bear it with the brick style phones which seem to perform all the functions better???

starsGood phone
I've been looking for Smartphone for the last year but there was not folder Smartphones until this one on Verizon network, and I really didn't want any other form factor. I considered switching to Cingular when 3125 was released but reviews weren't that good and I really didn't want to leave Verizon. So when PN-820 was released I decide to give it a try.

At this time I've been using this phone for 2 weeks and I am keeping it. My rating for this phone is 4 out of 5.

The most important factor for me is how the phone performs it's main function - making and receiving calls. If I were not satisfied in this area I wouldn't keep it. I can report that this phone performs great. Good sound quality, loud enough, no dropped calls, good signal strength. Battery life is satisfactory considering this is a smartphone.

It is a little bit larger than I would prefer, especially considering external antenna stub. If antenna was internal the size would be almost perfect.

Don't be in a hurry to get extended battery unless you are a heavy user. I don't talk much on the phone but tinker with its features and standard battery easily lasts for 2 days. If you work with computers I would recommend getting extra data cable to charge it at work via USB port.

Using this phone as a smartphone:

The amount of applications for it is endless, the customization is limitless. Great gadget!

T9 works great for occasional emailing. For heavy emailing you definitely need something with full keyboard or touch screen and on-screen keyboard.

Internet browsing is surprisingly usable but you should prefer websites geared towards the mobile devices. Also you may want to try Opera browser

Entering user names, passwords and URLs gets annoying fast :D

Unless you are on unlimited data plan watch out for data usage! It can get expensive really fast.

I tried using this phone for navigation with Mapopolis and compared it with Mapopolis running on my Axim x51v PDA. Let me just says that I am not getting rid of my PDA. Program performs almost the same on both devices but larger screen on Axim and touch screen make it much more convenient. Basically, for any planned long distance driving I will keep using Axim, for anything else PN-820 is good enough, especially for walking. Works great with GPSlim 240 BT GPS.

Skype works fairly good, but you can only hear the other party on the speaker. Again, WATCH OUT FOR DATA USAGE!

Voice command work great for me, but apparently not so good via BT headset - I don't have BT headset and can't comment.

Things I don't like about this phone:

1) Almost useless external display. It's not on all the time, only lights up for the event or when you press the button. The reason is most likely power consumption, but why couldn't they make it black-and-white so that it doesn't need permanent backlight and can stay on all the time? I don't care for camera preview on this display.

2) In the bright sunlight it's somewhat difficult to see the display (internal and external)

3) Proprietary connector - why not just use mini-USB? The reason is obvious - to make ridiculous profit on accessories, but I don't have to like it.

4) Keypad back light times out too quickly and there is no way to change it.

5) Alarms/Message notifications only ring once. I was really surprised by this. Admittedly it seems to be a "feature" of all smartphones, but it doesn't make sense to me. There is third party software to fix that.

6) It seems that camera lags about 2 seconds, but I personally don't care about the camera at all.

7) I wish Verizon offered the version of this phone without the camera - I would prefer smaller size, better battery life and reduced complexity.

8) Antenna stub makes it somewhat large than I prefer. I carry my phone in the pocket and this size is already pushing it. If I didn't want a smartphone I would never consider the phone of this size.

9) There is no note taking application built in.

starsphone/software needs some big fixes
I really want to like this phone, but there are too many nuisances/bugs that make for an unpleasureable experience. I am pretty sure I will return it to Verizon. I have been long waiting for a compact phone that has full featured contacts and calendar so that I can sync to Microsoft outlook. All the other PDA's that are out there are too bulky. So when I saw this unit I was like... "ahh finally". Anyway, I read some reviews on this site before I bought the phone, and was psyched at what was being said... However, after using this phone for a few weeks, I wonder if the previous reviewers were a little star stuck initially. So here are my issues....

CONS-

-No ability to adjust keypad light time. It times out waaay too quickly.

- The extremely thin Battery that came with this phone only lasts 1/2 a day!! the specs on this battery are inaccurate. I average about 10 text messages a day, and 5 short phone calls. This is unacceptable!!

-When the phone shuts down because of the battery being low, it looses the current date and time and defaults to 2006 until I hook it up and synchronize to my old WINXP desktop via the supplied USB cable. Not good!!

-No software support for VISTA via "SYNC CENTER". My new HP laptop came with VISTA, and MICROSOFT replaced "activesync" with "sync center". Activesync is not supported in VISTA. What to do now??

-Software menus are not organized well... it takes too many steps to access some frequently used features. UTSTAR which wrote the software for Pantech, needs to go back to the drawing board here and focus on usability. I loved the way my old LG phones operating system was designed!! Hey UTSTAR!! How about a "focus group" or some "beta testers"???

- Ringer is not very loud. Calls are easily missed.

- The camera is basically unusable!! If you snap a photo, the image that is frozen on the screen, is not the one that is saved!! The image that is captured is about two seconds delayed. Why is this??

- I wanted to get stereo Bluetooth headset to use it as a MP3 player, but a lot of reviewers seem to have problems getting Bluetooth to work with this unit. Oh, well...

PROS-

-nice looking
- bright screen
-compact size

starsSo-so
Since it is "a smartphone," to invite some of the more fundamental characteristics for being better than they are here. Confronted to my old simple telephone of the camera, the old Qualcomm was better. 1. The keys always do not answer when you press them - especially if wished to cancel an action or to conclude one called. 2. Not there are scorciatoie of the menu from the main screen in order to approach the characteristics. 3. While qualcun' specified other, can here be stung multiple for that what would have to be simple duties. 4. The camera is SLOW - if you or the thematic movements us at all AFTER THAT you crack the pic, 2 second ones after you you will obtain a photo blurry. (not good if photos of your domestic animal wished one on your telephone.) 5. If completely not withdrawn or not rimuovete a regulation, the telephone ' has jumped to what it regulated them the next approached time that characterized. Good to times, annoying the greater part of the times. 6. Not continuous the front LCD to visualize when the telephone is closed; you will have to press one of the keys from the side in order to see the date and the time. 7. The keys of the keyboard are not rubberized at all so as to they can be slippery. 8. The accessibility characteristic is much profit, but the screen is not applied to all. And this is all before that you obtain more to the roba operated. I have paid $50 it and up to now task that is right.

starsBest smartphone on the market
Hour I have used the PN-820 for approximately 3 weeks and here they are my appraisal of this smartphone: For: 1, Telephones in the second place in the first place, PDA (this is a great advantage against the i730 that previously I have had) 2. Activesync seems not to work very more best with this telephone... conflicts however 3. The style of the vibration telephone is the much more compact... i730 was like transporting a mattone around on my hip. I can crack the telephone in the holster on my hip, or slip it in my shirt or pocket of the pants... is a po' more often only of the telephone of the shaver. 4. The commad of voice it is impressive! It comes with ver 1,5 that it does not support the order of voice via the headset of BT, but you can calm the collection and the extremity calls via BT. The acknowledgment of the voice through the microtelephone is excellent. The i730 it has had marks them of voice that was approximately 75-80% exact one of the time. 5. The duration of battery seems to be right. A lot is is strange that the battery standard is this thin small and. Here it is large more... the telephone di.the comes with a loader of race (CA) and a cable of the usb sync/charger. I have bought therefore fundamental a loader of the automobile moreover, wherever pits, my telephone I am loading. I maintain the loader of CA in the country in order to load itself during the night and on the travels, I maintain the loader of the usb on the job in order to load during the day and the loader with the automobile while I am guiding. Not task that the battery has fallen anytime inferior 60 for hundreds. CONs: 1. Not to be able to begin the order of voice via BT was a great negation for me so as to I have dawned (with Handango for $40) VC to 1.6. That supports the orders of voice via BT for the PN-820. There are some secondary wrong impulses but general it works well. The acknowledgment of the voice via BT seems to be less exact that for means of the microphone of the microtelephone. It seems to work more best if you have the open launch telephone before the beginning of the order through the headset of BT. That can be because microtelephone mic is active when the telephone is opened launch. You will notice that the orders are audible through the BT and the loudspeakers of the microtelephone. That can initially seem a akward small, but it is nearly like the audience it in the stereotipia. More, it is enough cold to say that "Play Van Halen" and the telephone begins to play airs through the loudspeaker of microtelephone (not the BT) while been guiding. Fortune teller who is really FOR. I am supposing that between VZ and Microsoft, the zones and the modernizations will correct this secondary edition. 2. The announcements receipts of appointment and the visitor are play you to a level much bottom of volume and I have not found a sense to increase this. The notification sound is right and can be changed, but announcemenet the VC seem to be the edition. 3, Telephone comes with piece of furniture 5 of Windows, but it is not the greater given part recent of configuration? I do not know why a telephone that a month is had place towards the outside only would not have the version more recent than WM. I say myself to ch' here why to compose of voice is simultaneously audible through the loudspeakers of the microtelephone and BT. That one is up to now my experience. All the considered things, are dandogli an appraisal 5-star, than I have not made never before. If been trying "a miniordinatore" this is not for you... but if wished a large telephone, with graceful functionalities of PDA base and some cold supplements, this is your telephone. It enjoys!

starsThis one rocks
This phone replaced my i-730 and what a great change. Small and portable yet powerful. I have had the phone over a month and have a few minor gripes. Forget the speakerphone, except to listen to messages, it is not very good.

Make sure to buy the extended battery. These smartphones burn thru battery time pretty quick.

I thought the phone would be more dainty but I have dropped it many times and it still keeps on going.

The email functionality is great for viewing emails and browsing is fast. The word simple type works very well and is much easier to add new words to than my old phone.

Unlike what another person said, you can change the ringer settings by pussing one button (right side quick options) and then selecting the profile you want, or change the profile with the right softkey.

I wish the outside showed pictures other than the included basic 5 and I hope that there is a firmware update to mobile 6 but overall this phone rocks and is very good as a smartphone. Very easy to use as a cellphone if you learn a bit how to use it.

starsDon't waste your money.
That perhaps the telephone that defective it never buys. The menu it has not meant. To change the volume of the soneria you must go to two places of the seperate ones. That what would have to take to you or two beating takes 4 to you - 5 on this telephone. But the battery is still defective. Those miniums that come with the telephone hard approximately 24-36 hours that less make only 3 or 4 (5 minuteren or) short calls. Therefore I have exited and bought the extensive battery that hard long hardly the little smallest one.
